Suspended BCL leader tries to 'commit suicide'
Former member of BCL central committee Zarin Dia, who was suspended from the organisation over May 13 incident at Madhu’s canteen, reportedly tried to commit suicide by taking sedatives.
She was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday night and released on Tuesday afternoon, according to a report published in a Bangla daily.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Monday expelled an activist and suspended four others including Zarin Dia over a factional clash at Madhu’s canteen of Dhaka University (DU) on May 13.
BCL leader Rakib Hossain told the newspaper that they came to know through facebook that Zarin took sleeping pills.
Police found Dia's whereabouts after tracking her mobile phone. Later, she was rescued and admitted to the DMCH.
Confirming the matter, DMCH police outpost SI Bachchu Mia said Zarin was brought to the hospital on Monday night where her stomach was washed. She was released from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, he said.
Meanwhile, former BCL publicity secretary Saif Babu, also a post deprived leader, termed the expulsion 'a farce' in the name of investigation.
He alleged that Zarin was expelled out of personal vengayance.
But, central BCL president Golam Rabbani claimed that action was taken after proper investigation.
