FFs demand Tk 35,000 monthly allowance
The Sammilito Jatiya Muktijoddha Foundation on Sunday demanded a raise in the monthly honorarium of freedom fighters to Tk 35,000 from Tk 10,000.
They also demanded constitutional recognition of the freedom fighters.
The organization made the demand from a human chain formed at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
Chaired by the Foundation general secretary GK Babul Chisty, the programme was addressed, among others, by its advisor Shafi Uddin Bhuyian, senior vice president Abdur Rashid, organizing secretary Kazi Abdul Muzim Santu and finance secretary Abdul Baten.
In his speech, Chishty said, “BNP founder Ziaur Rahaman and Khondaker Mostaque Ahmad had worked against the Liberation War. After taking power, they, later, had destroyed the spirit of the Liberation War. But, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman first recognized the freedom fighters.”
Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina is working for the welfare of the freedom fighters, he added.
In 2009, the government increased the freedom fighters' monthly honorariam to Tk 10,000 from Tk 900.
