Three gang members held in Dhaka
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested three members of a human trafficking syndicate in connection with the incident of boat capsize in the Mediterranean Sea on May 9.
Acting on a Tip-off, a team of Rab-1 conducted drives in different parts of the capital, including Abdullahpur, Khilkhet and Airport areas on Friday and arrested the three, Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan, RAB's legal and media wing director, said at RAB's Karwan Bazar centre at noon.
The arrestees are Md Akkas Matobbar, 39, of Shariatpur, Enamul Hoque Talukder, 46, of Sylhet, and Abdur Razzak Bhuiyan, 34, of Brahmanbaria.
Of the arrestees, Anamul Haque was engaged in human trafficking for 10 to 12 years, he said.
Anamul is owner of Yahya Oversees of Zindabazar in Sylhet, and Razzak is a close associate of his syndicate, the RAB official added.
Besides, Akkach belongs to another syndicate, he further said. Human trafficking syndicates usually use three routes to Libya. These are Bangladesh-Istanbul-Libya; Bangladesh-India-Sri Lanka (stay 4-5 days)-Istanbul (transit)-Tripoli; and Bangladesh-Dubai (7-8 days stay)-Amman (transit)-Benghazi-Tripoli.
