Words from a designer
Salma Rahman Ankhi is the owner of Ankhi's Collection by SR. This energetic entrepreneur is running her business through Facebook page and fulfilling women's desires and demands with her highest level of devotion, honesty and hard work. Ankhi has long been fighting for copyright of her unique clothing designs who once had long fought with her brain tumour which might hinder her entrepreneurship but at the end of the day she won the battle, and now Ankhi's Collection is a favourite brand to female folks.
The way I started.....
Designing is my hobby and passion. Since my childhood, I used to design my own clothes. Everyone used to like those and used to make their dresses like mine. By getting appreciation from all, I didn't know when I have turned into professional designer. Back in 1997, during my college life, I have started a boutique house and named it 'Ankhi's Collection by Ankhi'. After my graduation and marriage, I left Bangladesh and settled abroad. There had suffered from brain tumor, went through surgery, had complete bed rest for a long time. During the sojourn, designs used to play in my mind and I used to try to give them shape on my drawing books.
In 2001, I started the same venture once again. It is worth mentioning that I came home in the same year. Till now the business is going on. I wonder when I have started, there were only two workers with me but now so many workers are working with Ankhi's Collection, Alhamdulillah! In 2013 I have opened a Facebook page named "Ankhi's Collection by Ankhi". Since then, I never had to look back.
Reason to choose the profession.....
As I shared earlier that I always had a passion for designing; I find this job suitable for me. I've found that boutiques actually matched with my passion. Time and hard working skill brought me here actually!
The specialty of my business....
Firstly, I would like to tell my designs are unique. All my designs come from my imagination. I love to play with colors. So, if you have a close look to my dresses you will find varieties of colors. A specific specialty of our business is that we use all local materials/products.
Another important thing is that I have brought for my valued clients are Couple Dresses- Same Design/Type Shirts and Punjabi for male and Sharee and Kamiz for female.
What I sell.....
Well, my main selling products are female attires. I always try to bring some new concept in my design patterns in order to meet the taste of female for all ages and suitable with generation.
Couple dress, which I mentioned earlier, we sell frequently. These couple dresses really have high demand during the occasions of Pahela Baishakh, Eid, Puja,Valentine's Day, etc.
Challenges I face to run the business....
The main goal of my business is customer satisfaction. To achieve this, I have to come across many challenges like keeping commitments to customers, meeting customers taste and most importantly, using the best quality materials no matter how the price is!
These days I am facing a very unusual, unexpected problem. We already know there are thousands of online boutique shops these days. Most of them hardly pay attention to the quality of products. They are also copying others' design. These days whatever new design I am bringing to the market some corrupted people are copying those and selling them. This is so unethical.
I would like to say that my family did not play any role in my success. I always feel that I myself am the motivator for me! My soul always whispers on my ears and says "Ankhi, you can do It" and honestly speaking, thing encourages me to do work most! Lots of obstacles have come to my way but nothing could scare me! Reviews on my page given by valued clients are one of the greatest inspirations of my work. Their valued reviews and satisfaction with my products boosts me and produces more energy to take new challenges.
Message for the young entrepreneurs....
Every girl or woman has her own identity. I strongly believe and feel that every girl is a Power House! My message to the young entrepreneur, especially for female, would be - Take challenge, do the work which you care about it, take risk, believe in yourself, look at your vision, face your fears, plan for raising capital and last but not the least know your goals.
