Folk singer Rathindranath Roy has returned to film songs after a long time. Nearly nineteen years ago he voiced for the film 'Hridoyer Bandhan.' Now he has sung for 'Payrar Chithi' directed by Nishith Surjo. Surjo himself has tuned and written the song titled 'Japita Jibon Ananda Lagan.' It is a Kirtan in folk-genre. Musfiq Litu has arranged music of the song.
About his comeback playback song the Ekushey Padak winning, Rathindranath Roy said, "I am feeling great. When I learnt that this song styled as a Kirtan was prepared for me to sing I agreed to contribute for the playback. I feel glad having sung to a good lyric and composition after a long time." Rathindranath Roy last sang for a film song in 2000 under Alauddin Ali.
Rathindranath Roy is primarily known as a singer of Bhawaiya songs of Rangpur. His film songs 'O Jar Ontore Bahire Kono Tofat Nai,' 'Tumi Arekbar Jao More Kandaiya', 'Shobai Bole Boyosh Bare,' 'Khodar Ghore Nalish Korte Dilo Na Amare' won hearts for him. He performed his first playback for the 1966 film Saat Bhai Champa. During the Liberation War he sang for Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. He won Ekushey Padak in 1995.
