Beximco Communications connects satellite with home TVs

Beximco Communications Limited has brought to the nation the first ever world standard Direct to Home (DTH) service in Bangladesh under the brand name Akash.
Although Bangladesh has a high TV penetration, the nation did not have the freedom to enjoy the perks of DTH technology so far. Akash, the first and only legal DTH operator in the country, for the time being, aims at changing the game and taking the Pay TV industry of Bangladesh to a new era of excellence.
Bangladesh, the 57th country in the world to have its own satellite, being on its glorious journey towards the digital era has made it possible for Beximco Communications, as Akash, to provide DTH service through the very own satellite of the nation- Bangabandhu Satellite 1.
The company launched the new DTH service Akash at a ceremony at The Westin Dhaka hotel in the capital on Thursday.
Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, MP, addressed the audience as chief guest while Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, MP spoke as special guest at the event.
Prime Minister's Adviser on Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman, MP, was also present at the event. Beximco Communications Ltd Chairman Shayan F Rahman gave the vote of thanks while CEO DS Faisal Hyder, made the address of welcome.
Akash will be commercially available from Sunday, May 19 next at authorized retails in 20 Districts - Dhaka, Mymensingh, Tangail, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Manikganj, Cumilla, Noakhali, Feni, Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Khagrachari, Rangamati, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sunamganj.
Speaking at the Event, Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said: "Akash DTH will play a vital role to implement the Broadcast Act. It will increase Govt. revenue and will remove the cable hazards. DTH technology will also be helpful to prevent the advertisements in foreign TV channels as well as it ensures clear sound and picture in TV programs."
Commerce Minister  Tipu Munshi said: " DTH Akash has brought the dream of Digital Bangladesh one step ahead. The technology should reach every corner of the country so that people can be benefitted of the Bangbandhu Satellite-1. This wireless technology will ensure information and entertainment service in remote area."
According to the Beximco Communications, DTH is the superior technology in Pay TV industries worldwide. Akash has a large bouquet of popular and relevant Bangladeshi and foreign TV channels to cater to the need of Bangladeshi consumers. It is going to change the TV watching experience in the country.
With supreme quality picture and sound, The bouquet includes more than one hundred channels. Currently all the channels will be available for only BDT 399 monthly (including VAT).
To add more colour to the entertainment life of the customers and to cater to different needs of people, Akash plans to bring more channels in future and introduce services like Video on Demand. Akash will also cater to every customer need with its 24/7 active call center and professional installation and after sales support.
