Two get death, 8 life term for abducting child
A tribunal in Dhaka on Thursday sentenced two persons to death and eight other to life term imprisonment for abducting an child from Dhaka in 2015.
The condemned convicts are: Moshiur Rahman Montu, 40, and Mizanur Rahman, 35. Of them, Mizanur is at large.
The lifers are: Rezaul Karim, 36, Nazrul Islam, 32, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, 38, Md Iqbal Hossain Shuvo, 28, Shajib Ahmed Kamal, 47, Md Alim Hossain Chandan, 27, Kawsar Mridha, 25, and Reza Mridha, 30.
After examining the records and witnesses, Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Md Khadem Ul Kayes announced the verdict.
According to the prosecution, eight-year-old madrasa student Abir from Banani in 2015. The abductors demanded Tk 10 crore from the child's family.
Abir's family, later, gave them Tk 2 crore and informed the matter to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
RAB men, in a drive, rescued Abir and caught the convicts with Tk 1.80 crore in cash. A case had been filed with Cantonment police in this regard.
