Three get life term for rape, killing in 2 dists

Separate courts, on Monday, sentenced three persons to life term jail for rape and killing in two districts- Barishal and Cumilla.  
BARISHAL: A court here on Monday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment and fined Tk 1 lakh for raping his girlfriend several times.
Judge Abu Shamim Azad of Barishal Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Court passed the order.
Accused Shamsul Alam Roy, son of late Mannan Shikdar of Khontakhali Village in Mehendiganj Upazila of the district was absconding during the verdict.
Bench Assistant of the court Azibar Rahman said Shamsul had a relation with the victim. Alluring her to marry, he developed a physical relation with her since September 15, 2010.
On November 18, 2010, they were caught in inappropriate condition by the victim's neighbour, and Shamsul fled away.
Later, on November 23, the victim filed a cased against Shamsul.
Police submitted a charge-sheet against the accused.
After getting statements from nine witnesses, the judge passed the order.
CUMILLA: A court here on Monday sentenced two persons to life term imprisonment and fined each Tk 10,000 on charge of burning a teenager girl to death after rape in the district.
Judge MA Awal of Comilla Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Court passed the order.
One of the convicts, Abu Taleb, son of Mokbul Ahmed of Mataincoat Village in Sadar Dakkhin Upazila is currently in jail and the other convict Joshna Begum, wife of Abdur Rahman of the same village, is a fugitive.
Court sources said Abu Taleb raped the victim Nilufa Akhter, daughter of Selim Mia of the same village, after alluring her to marry. At one stage, the girl became pregnant. Thus she started to pressurize Taleb to marry her.
On January 23, 2011, Taleb with his associate Joshna Begum set Nilufa on fire after pouring kerosene on her body in front of her home.
Nilufa received 84 per cent burns on her body and was admitted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
Later she was transferred to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she died on January 31, 2011.
Before dying, she gave her statement to the magistrate on
January 26.
Her father filed a case against the two with Sadar South Model Police Station (PS).
Sub-Inspector (Investigation) of the PS Jahangir Alam submitted charge sheet against the two accused on April 17, 2011.
After getting the statements from 18 witnesses, the judge passed the order.
