One burned dead, 5 injured in ship-breaking yard fire

A worker was burnt to dead and five others were injured in a fire at a ship-breaking yard Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Mohamamd Rubel,27 a cutting worker of 'Premier Trade Corporation. He hailed from Dewanganj Kazirpur area of Feni district.

The fire broke out when the workers were dismantling a scrap ship at Premier Trade Corporation ship breaking yard at about 8:30 am, leaving six injured.

They were taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the doctors pronounced Rubel dead.

The injured are: Al Ami,27, Mohammad Masud,19, Sohel,24, Mamun,36, and Kamrul,28.

Zahirul Islam, in-charge of Chattogram Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed.

The reason of fire and extent of damage could not be known yet.
