Int’l congregation held at DIU

A two-day long international congregation on women empowerment, gender diversity and financial inclusion held at Dhaka International University (DIU) on 29 & 30 April. Vivekanandha College of Arts and Sciences for Women, Tiruchengode, Tamil Nadu; MTC Global, Bangalore, India and Dhaka International University jointly organized the congregation.
A number of about 25 foreign delegates coming from India and Indonesia and prominent economists, intellectuals, academics, researchers, activists and students from Bangladesh presented papers.
Mohammed Farashuddin, PhD, Chief Adviser & Founder Vice Chancellor, East West University and former governor, Bangladesh Bank and eminent economist attended the inaugurate session as chief guest. Dr Mohammed Farashuddin said that Women empowerment is key for the development of any country. Without ensuring participation of women in the financial process no society can go ahead for smooth progress, he added.
Prof. Masuda M. Rashid Chowdhury, M.P, Woman Entrepreneur and Educationist presented the keynote paper on Women Empowerment, Gender Diversity & Financial; Inclusion. Michael Schulthei, Deputy Head of Mission, German Embassy Dhaka joined the inaugurate session as Guest of Honour.
Barrister Shameem Haider Patwary, MP & Vice-chairman, BoT, DIU remarked that the congregation has already become an inclusive one as the organizer received about 200 hundred papers and invited about 35 foreign speakers. He opined that he is going to place a law in the parliament where any spouse will get a share of the property from the counterpart in case of divorce of marriage after 10 years of conjugal life.
Prof. DrMijanur Rahman, Vice-chancellor, Jagannath University attended the second session as chief guest. DrMijan emphasized on financial freedom of women while Barrister Shah Ali Farhad, Special Assistant to Prime Minister focused on the success of the present government to empower women and their financial inclusion when delivered his speech as guest of honour. Still, the government needs to do a lot to make a discrimination society, he urged. Dato Seri. Dr. ZahidulHaque, Chancellor, ASEAN University International, Jakarta, Indonesia; Dr. Bholanath Dutta, Founder & President, MTC global, India; Dr. K Priya, Professor & Head, Department of Commerce, Vivekanandha College of Arts and Sciences for Women, Tiruchengode, Tamil Nadu and other distinguished delegates delivered speeches on the first day.
Prof. Dr Md. GolamSamdani Fakir, VC, Green University was the chief guest at the first session of the second day while Prof. Dr Md. AbulKashem, VC, HSTU conclude the congregation as chief guest at the valedictory session.
On the second day, the foreign delegates visited the Yunus Centre at Mirpur in the morning. The programme was moderated by Prof. DrSerajul Islam Prodhan, Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Raisul Islam Sourav, Assistant Professor & Chairperson, Department of Law & Additional Director, IQAC & Miley Sultana, Assistant Professor, Department of Law & Additional Director, IQAC.
