Rape of 2 tribal girls in Rangpur: Prime accused held in Savar
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested the prime accused in a case filed over the gang-rape of two indigenous young women in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur district.
The arrest was made in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital early Friday.
Accused Ratan Minji, 20 is the son of Budhua Minji in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district.
Additional deputy inspector general Mozammel Haq, commanding officer of RABb-13, informed this in a press briefing held at Rangpur RAB Headquarters on Friday morning.
He said Ratan had an affair w ith a girl of an ethnic community in Mithakupur upazila.
On April 18, Ratan phoned the girl and asked her to meet him. The girl alongwith her cousin went to the area to meet Ratan.
Later, Ratan and his three friends took the girls to a maize filed and violated them.
The victims returned home the next day and the girl who love affair with Ratan committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house.
Her cousin, who was also a victim, filed a case with Mithapukur Police Station on April 19.
