Manpower crisis hits Kaharol Upazila Health Complex
DINAJPUR, Apr 25: Severe manpower crisis has hit Kaharol Upazila Health Complex in the district. As a result, people are not getting required health care services.
Kaharol Upazila is formed with six unions. About 1.5 lakh people of the unions depend on this hospital for their treatment. Though there are 15 posts of doctor, only five are currently posted. Of them, one is in maternal leave, and one went to Nilpahamri Medical College on deputation, while there are only three doctors who are giving treatment to the people.
Besides, the x-ray machine has remained unused for long due to film crisis, and the only ambulance has remained damaged for long.
Getting no required treatment, the people are going to the town hospitals.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (UHFPO) Dr Mohammad Shafiul Azam is facing setback while giving treatment to the patients besides his administrative job. The patients wait in long queue in the outdoor section for hours to take treatment. Though the patients are mostly children and old people, they are not getting expected treatment.
Local people complained that the doctors, who are transferred to this health complex, stay here for two to three months, and later go to their chosen areas through deputation or other means.
While talked, UHFPO Dr Mohammad Shafiul Azam said, "Of the total 15 doctors at this health complex, there are only three. We have informed the matter through verbal and written means to the higher authority several times, but till today, no required doctors have been appointed here."
