The wildlife department on Thursday morning rescued a fishing cat, an endangered specie, in Sadar upazila of Bhola district after locals captured it.

The fishing cat was caught in a trap laid by farmer Abul Kalam at Kolghat cluster village around 11:00am.

Being informed, the wildlife department rushed there and rescued the animal.

According to locals, the fishing cat has been eating their poultry birds and goats for long that led them to entrap the animal.

Md Kamrul Islam, Sadar upazila Range official, said the rescued fishing cat would be released wild forest of Char Kukri Mukri.

As the news spread, curious mob thronged at the home of Abul Kalam to see the two-feet high and three-and-half-feet tall fishing cat.
