Veteran actor Saleh Ahmed passed away at the age of 83 yesterday. The actor was suffering from old-age complications. The Independence Day Award recipient fell ill recently and was admitted to Apollo Hospital in the city on April 22. There he breathed his last at 2.33pm yesterday. Ahsan Habib Nasim, general secretary of Shilpi Shangha, joint-general secretary Rownak Hasan and cousin of Saleh Ahmed and also actor Ahsanul Haque Minu have confirmed the news. Saleh Ahmed suffered cardiac arrest in 2011. Since then the family was struggling to cater for the medical expenses.
Saleh Ahmed became popular in the 90s both on TV screens and on silver screens. He starred in TV series like Ayomoy, Kothao Keu Nei and many more directed by Humayun Ahmed. He also played key roles in Humayun Ahmed's full-length films-Amar Achhe Jol, Srabon Megher Din, Aguner Poroshmoni etc.
Saleh Ahmed was born in Sariakandi, Bogura. He served in the Department of Public Health Engineering for a long time. In 1991 he left his job and focused whole-heartedly on acting. During his time in service he was also involved with Amraboti Natyamoncho based in Mymensingh. Before the independence he was a regular actor of BTV dramas.
