JS adopts obituary reference

The 11th Jatiya Sangsad on the first day of its second session today unanimously adopted obituary references on a number of distinguished personalities, including a former minister, five members of parliament and grandson of Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim who was killed in a series bomb blast in Sri Lanka.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the obituary references separately with brief resumes on those who died after prorogation of the first session of the 11th parliament, BSS reports.

The Speaker while moving the references said the House expresses its deep shock at the deaths of former minister Sheikh Abdul Aziz, five members of parliament Abu Saleh Mohammad Sayeed Dulal, Monjur Ahmed, Tazul Islam Mohammad Faruque, Arzu Mand Banu, Rahima Akhter and Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman.

The house also condoled the death of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s cousin Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim’s grandson 8-year old Zayan Chowdhury, who was killed in a series bomb blasts ripping through churches and luxury hotels in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo on April 21.

So far 321 people were killed and at least 450 injured in bomb blasts that ripped through churches and luxury hotels in the Sri Lankan capital on Easter Sunday, the first major attack on the Indian Ocean island since the end of a civil war 10 years ago.

The house also expressed deep condolence over the deaths of Advisor to the former caretaker government ASM Shahjahan, valiant freedom fighter M Abdul Khaleque Sheikh, father of Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim, former Head Mistress Jahanara Begum, wife of parliament member Dr Mozammel Hossen, former Principal of Pabna Govt.

College Principal Lutfunnesa, wife of Awami Leader Shamsul Haq Tuku, Rashed Suhrawardy, son of Hossen Shahid Suhrawardy, Rawshan Ara Begum, mother of Awami League leader M Shahiduzzaman Sarker,Advocate Mahbubul Haq, husband of former lawmaker Dilara Begum, Alor Feriwala Palan Sarker, Senior Journalist and former Director General of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Shah Alamgir, noted poet Al Mahmud, renowned singer Shahnaj Rahmatullah and noted comedian Tele Samad.

Dr Shirin also expressed deep shock at the deaths of Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Madrasha in Feni and fireman Sohel Rana who was killed in fire rescue operation held at FR Tower at Banani in the capital.

The Jatiya Sangsad has expressed deep shock recalling the deaths caused by various incidences held in home and abroad in recent past including series bomb blasts in Sri Lanka, fire incident at FR tower in Banani, terrorist attack in two mosques at Christchurch in New Zealand and aircraft crush in Ethiopia.

The house also sought eternal peace and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

The lawmakers also observed one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls. Later, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls.
