Workers block road protesting officials' misbehaviour
Workers of Gem Jute Mills in Panchagarh on Tuesday staged demonstration and blockade road in Boda upazila of the district protesting 'misbehaviour' of officials, retrenchment and demanding salary hike.
The workers, however, staged demonstration in front of the mill for the entire day since morning and went on work abstention.
They also blocked the Panchagarh-Dhaka highway for several hours in Muslimbagh area.
Despite the whole day work abstention, authorities did not pay heed to meet their demands.
The protesting workers, however, threatened to refrain from going back to work until their demands are met.
The workers alleged that the mill's product manager Saiful Islam and general manager Zakir Hossain have been misbehaving with them for long.
The officials scold the workers and do not allow them to enter inside the mill for slightest delay, the said.
Even, they do not allow female workers to respond to the call of nature. Besides scolding, the workers' some amount of salary are deducted due to spending time in taking lunch and in responding to the call of nature.
The workers also said they have been working for year, but salary has not been hiked yet, so they demand wage hike.
Contacted, jute mill human resource official Abul Bashar said he was outside of the mills but heard about work abstention He will talk later regarding this.
