Labiba wins the first crown of Gaaner Raja
Fairuz Labiba has become the first Gaaner Raja. The young prodigy from Khulna was conferred with the honourary title on April 19 at the Grand Finale of the musical competition for children, held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center, Agargaon in the city. She has won her spot while vying against five thousand applicants. Eminent vocalist Runa Laila announced her name as the winner. The first runner-up is Shafiqul Islam from Netrokona and the second runner-up is Sithi Sarkar from Mymensingh.
The event saw the final selection from the top five promising child singers. Konal and Imran, regular judges of the show were present along with guest judge Runa Laila at the event. Also present at the final pitching session were former Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor; Faridur Reza Sagar, Managing Director of Channel i; Shykh Seraj, News Director of Channel i; Mukit Majumder Babu, Director of Channel i; Syed Alamgir, Managing Director o ACI and more.
Apart from the child contenders a number of others particularly established names in the music industry of the country took to the stage to render performances. Noted singers like SI Tutul, Tapan Chowdhury, Agoon, Doly Sayantoni and Topu shared the stage with their younger counterparts.
The contest started through auditions in November last year. Five thousand children from all over the country enlisted for the audition round. Fifty-six from these were selected for the around 40 selection rounds numbering that were aired on Channel i from December, last year.
Along with the title of Gaaner Raja, Labiba has won a prize money worth five lac taka while the two runner-ups-Shafiqul and Sithi have won three lac taka and two lac taka respectively.
