HC orders disposal of case by six months
Denying bail to Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana in a case filed for violating the building code, the High Court on Tuesday directed the lower court to dispose the case by six months.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order disposing a rule issued earlier over Sohel Rana's bail in the case.
The High Court issued the rule on May 9, 2016, after Rana's wife filed an application earlier on April 18 seeking her husband's bail.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state while Advocate Md Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Advocate Md Sajjad Ali Chowdhury stood for the accused.
On April 24, 2013, Rana Plaza, an illegally constructed building at Savar housing five garment factories, crashed down, killing 1,175 people and injuring over 2,000 others.
ACC Deputy Assistant Director SM Mofidul Islam filed the case on June 15, 2014 over the violation of the building code in constructing the building. -UNB
