Khulna city dwellers urged to pay tax regularly for ensuring development
KHULNA, Apr 16: Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque on Tuesday urged house owners as well as both public and private organisation authorities to be engaged in development activities through paying tax regularl.
"We will have no way to cut off KCC's all utility services in future if tax defaulters do not pay dues in time," he warned while speaking in the inaugural ceremony of a fortnightly 'Tax Collection Fair of KCC-2019' on KCC premises as chief guest.
"I am committed to building the city green, clean, eco-friendly and water-logging free within the shortest possible time," he also said.
He sought whole-hearted cooperation of the city dwellers to supplement KCC's efforts as without their support the cherished goal will not be achieved.
Chaired by KCC Chief Revenue Officer Md Abdur Rahman, the programme was addressed, among others, by KCC Chief Executive Officer Palash Kanti Bala and Secretary Md Azmul Haque.
Later, KCC mayor inaugurated the fair by releasing balloons.
A total of four booths were set up to collect tax on KCC premises from April 16 to 30 during the fair, said KCC Tax Collector Tapan Kumar Nandi.
He said, KCC will get arrear tax worth Tk 42.66 crore to 312 public and private organisations, and Tk 40.50 crore from 69,300 holding owners in the city.
At least 15 per cent surcharges and five per cent rebate for the four quarter tax in the current fiscal year have been waived during the fair, he also said.
