National Health Service Week begins
The National Health Service Week began on Monday aimed at creating awareness about the importance of providing healthcare at the doorsteps of common people and ensuring nutrition for all which has an impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately the national development.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in city's Agargaon area around 10:30am.
The premier, in her speech, called upon people concerned for mainstreaming the traditional medicine through a renewed focus on the age-old indigenous healthcare system alongside the conventional drugs.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque presided over the function while State Minister Dr. Md Murad Hasan spoke on the occasion as the special guest.
The theme of the Week of this year is 'Ensure Health Service Right:
Promise of Sheikh Hasina' (Sasthyo Sheba Odhikar, Sheikh Hasinar Angikar).
Maleque expressed his optimism that the country would achieve the milestone in the health sector within the shortest possible time under the dynamic leadership of the present government.
"Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman included the right of nutrition as a fundamental need and inducted it into the constitution." he said.
On the first day of the week, special supplements were published in five newspapers.
Apart from this, clean up campaign was held at every healthcare service centre and documentary on health service development was displayed at every medical educational institution across the country.
The week would be observed till April 20. -BSS
