Minerva Punjab Football Club, on Tuesday, had thrown a challenge to rival Dhaka Abahani ahead of their important match of AFC Cup group stage.
The match is to kick off today (Wednesday) at 5:45 pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.
Since it is a home match for the traditional sky blue jerseys, the Dhaka based club is expected to get support from the home supporters. So it is expected that the home side will be more confident than the visitors. But, Minerva Punjab FC seemed more confident about collecting full three points from the match.
Dhaka Abahani is leading the point table with three points while India's Chandigarh based club Minerva is at the second place of the four-team group. It has a single point like the third placer Chennaiyin FC. Manang Marshyangdi Club of Nepal is at the bottom line with zero point. The quartet had already played one match each.
Minerva Punjab head coach Sachin Badadhe said, "We are confident of winning the match tomorrow (Wednesday). We came here with good preparation and will compete for full three points. I have seen the match between Abahani and Manang Marshyangdi and believe that the Nepalese played better there. Abahani didn't lose the match that time only because it had a good goalkeeper. We have analysed different points."
In reply, former Portuguese booter and current coach of Dhaka Abahani Mrio Lemos also said his players were going to play for full three points. He said in a press briefing on Tuesday, "We will play for full three points tomorrow (Wednesday). It is very important match for us. Everyone in the team is confident. Our challenger in the match is good too. But, we don't think Abahani is bad in anyway."
