A Feni court on Monday placed ex-Awami League leader Maksud Alam, a councillor of Sonagazi municipality, on a 5-day remand in connection with Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Soraf Uddin Ahmed gave the order after Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Md Shah Alam, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court, seeking a 10-day remand, said Golam Zilani, inspector of Feni court.
A Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) team arrested Maksud, also a member of the governing body of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa, from a hotel in the capital on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, Maksud was suspended from the party on Friday. Police have so far arrested 10 people, including Maksud and Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa principal Siraj-Ud-Doula, over the murder of Nusrat.
On Monday, accused Nuruddin and Shahadat Hossain Shamim confessed to their involvement in the murder of Nusrat.
Taherul Haque Chauhan, additional superintendent of police in the PBI, said Senior Judicial Magistrate Zakir Hossain recorded the statements of the two accused. Nur and Shamim were brought to the court at 3:00pm and the judge recorded their statements until 1:00am.
