Subir Nandi put on life support
Veteran singer Subir Nandi has been put on life support at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Combined Military Hospital (CMH). The singer was admitted to the hospital on the night of April 14 after 10pm. He was travelling to Dhaka from Moulvi Bazar after paying a visit to a relative. On the train he suddenly fell sick. A physician on the train suggested that he should be taken to hospital. Thus the family made a stop at Uttara and took the singer to CMH. Almost an hour into his admittance at the hospital he suffered a heart attack, following which he was taken to ICU. His condition can only be reported after completion of seventy-two hour long observation, Rashedul Alam Khan, Assistant Director of CMH has confirmed. He is under supervision of Brigadier General Dr Towfiq Elahi.
At noon yesterday the chief specialist at National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute paid a visit to the singer on the family's behalf. He has reported that the condition of Subir Nandi is very complicated. He has asked everyone to pray for the singer.
Subir Nandi has for long been suffering from diabetes, kidney complications. He has to undergo dialysis regularly. He has also undergone bypass operation before. After he was admitted to the hospital on April 14 his condition became stable. Then he was given some medication. He felt well and wanted to sit up leaning against the bed. As his family members tried to help him lean he suffered the attack.
Subir Nandi has received five National Film Awards till now. He also received four BACHSAS Awards. He recorded his first film song for the 1976 film Surjagrahan directed by Abdus Samad. His first radio record was for Sylhet Betar in 1967. Three years later he joined Dhaka Radio. Jodi Keu Dhup Jele Dai, recorded for Dhaka Radio in 1972 is considered to be his first original song. It was written by Mohammed Muzakker and composed by Ustad Mir Kasem. His first music album 'Subir Nandir Gaan' was released in 1981. He was conferred with Ekushey Padak this year.
The veteran singer was born in Sylhet Division in 1953. In his four decade long career he has voiced for nearly two and half a thousand songs. At present he is aged 66.
