Councillor Maksud remanded over Nusrat murder
Sonagazi municipality councillor and former Awami League leader Maksud Alam has been placed on a 5-day remand in a case filed over killing of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Feni's Senior Judicial magistrate Saraf Uddin Ahmed passed the order on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, investigation officer (IO) inspector Md Shah Alam of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) produced Maksud before the court seeking 10 days' remand for him.
A ream of PBI arrested Maksud, also a member of the governing body of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa, from a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday night.
Later on Friday, local Awami League expelled Maksud from the party.
So far, 13 people have been arrested in the case. Of them, 10 have been remanded.
Meanwhile, two suspects have given confessional statement.
On April 6, Nusrat Jahan Rafi, an Aleem examinee from Sonagazi Fazil Madrasha, was set on fire allegedly by some fellows as she refused to withdraw a case filed against the madrasa principal for sexual harassment.
She died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday night (April 10).
