3 drown in Mymensingh
MYMENSINGH: Three persons including two minor girls drowned in the district in two days.
A youth drowned in Old Brahmaputra River while he was taking Astami Snan (holy bath) on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Rahul Sarker, 25, son of Ashish Sarker of Boro Bazar area of the district city.
Quoting the victim's family members, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station (PS) Md Mahmudul Islam said Rahul along with his two friends went to the river to take holy dive at the Jublee Ghat area of the river around 8.00am. At one point, while taking the dive, Rahul was drowned.
On information, divers of Fire Brigade and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Later, they handed it over to the family, the OC informed.
In another incident, two cousin sisters drowned in a pond at Charneamot Village in Phulpur Upazila on Friday afternoon.
The victims are- Mahia, 6, daughter of Minto Mia of Kazaikata village of Nakla Upazila of Sherpur, and her cousin Joba, 7, daughter of Jahangir Hossain of Charneamot.
Quoting local people, OC (Investigation) of Phulpur PS Mehdi Hasan said Mahia came to visit her maternal uncle's house with her mother recently. Mahia along with her cousin Joba went to the pond near by the house around 3pm.
Later, their family members recovered them from the pond after searching everywhere and sent them to Phulpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared them dead, the OC added.
