Female madrasha student burned by fellows in Feni
A female madrasha student was burned by her classmates at examination centre in Sonagazi upazila of Feni on Saturday morning.
A group of students brought Nusrat Jahan Rafi to the roof of a building at Sonagazi Fazil Madrsaha around 9.00am and fled the scene after setting fire to her body, said Mahmudul Hasan Numan, brother of the victim.
Nusrat went to the examination center to take part in Arabic first paper examination of Alim examination.
Students of the madrasha with the help of local people rescued Nusrat after the incident and rushed her to Feni Sadar Hospital. Later on duty doctors referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Dr Abu Thaer, Residential Medical Officer of Feni Sadar Hospital, said 70 to 80 percent of the victim’s body was burned by the fire. "We sent her to DMCH after giving first aid," he added.
Sonagazi Model Police Station Inspector Kamal Hossain confirmed the matter. Further action will be taken after investigation, said the police officer.
On March 17, the victim lodged a complaint against the madrasha principal over sexual harassment in the office. Police arrested the principal following a case filed by Nusrat’s mother.
After the arrest of the principal, a group of students have been demanding punishment for the principal, while another group demanding his release from the jail.
