SC upholds bail for ex-MP Rana

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday upheld a High Court (HC) order granting bail to former Awami League lawmaker from Tangail-3 (Ghatail) Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in a case filed over the killing of Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order rejecting an appeal made by the government seek cancellation of his HC bail.
However, Rana will not be able to walk free as his bail has been denied in another case filed over the killing of two Jubo League leaders, Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah told journalists.
On March 14, an HC bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman granted six months' bail to the former lawmaker in the murder case.
