Int’l conference on energy at BRACU
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of BRAC University (BRACU) opened a 3-day international conference on Energy and Power Engineering (ICEPE 2019) at BCDM Savar, Dhaka on Thursday.
Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury Bir Bikram, energy advisor to the prime minister, inaugurated the conference as the chief guest.
He said Bangladesh's energy has been tremendously increased in the past 10 years with the percentage of people getting access to electricity increased from 45 to 90 percent. He expected more collaboration with the IEEE power and energy society and others presented at the conference in solving problems of Bangladesh's power sector.
Prof Saifur Rahman, president of the IEEE power and energy society, said there are around 5 million papers in IEEE power and energy society database, from where 3 million documents downloaded every month.
Prof Vincent Chang, vice-chancellor of BRACU, said energy is playing a critical role in economic development of Bangladesh while historically energy technologies have propelled country development.
Dhaka is a growing city of energy transformation, and hopefully in 5 years BracU and Dhaka will be developed by quite some notches, he said.
