Drug peddler killed, 67 others arrested

At least one drug peddler was killed in Cox's Bazar on Tuesday and 67 others were arrested in connection with drug abuse and peddling in Dhaka on Thursday.
Md Masudur Rahman. Deputy Commissioner Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said the criminals were arrested over the last 24 hours in raids across various areas of the capital.
During the raids, 23,107 Yaba pills, 833 small packs of heroin, 35 bottles of Phensidyl and Marijuana were recovered.
Fifty-one cases have been filed against the detainees under the Narcotics Control Act with the relevant police stations, said Officer Masudur Rahman.
Our Cox's Bazar correspondent added that a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Islam, 32, son of Abdul Gafur of Ward No. 4 of the municipality.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-2 conducted a drive at Delpara village around 4:00am, said Shariful Islam Chamakdar, Acting Commanding Officer of BGB-2.
Sensing presence of the border guards, the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers, leaving one dead on the spot. The BGB team also recovered 7,000 Yaba pills and two sharp weapons from the spot. The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
