Int’l confce on State, Society in S Asia to begin in city today

An international conference on 'State and Society in South Asia: A Historical Perspective' will begin in the capital.
A two-day-long conference was jointly organised by Department of History, Jagannath University, Dhaka and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata, India.
The inaugural session of the conference will start at 9:30am in the Central Auditorium of Jagannath University.
Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, will be present as the chief guest.
A total of 50 students, researchers and about 60 professors from Bangladesh and outside of the country include India, Bhutan, Srilanka and Canada will present their research papers on various issues.
Besides diplomats, journalists and writers will be present to discuss the presented topics.
Professor Muchkund Dubey, former Foreign Secretary of India and President, Council for Social Development, New Delhi, India and Professor Dr Harun-or- Rashid, Vice Chancellor, National University, Gazipur, Bangladesh will present the keynote papers.
Professor Dr Mijanur Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Jagannath University, will preside over the session.
Valedictory session will be held on 16th March at 3:30pm. Professor S.D. Muni, Emeritus Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India and Professor Dr Mesbah Kamal, Department of History, University of Dhaka will be present as valedictory speakers.
Professor Md Salim Bhuiyan, Treasurer, Jagannath University, Dhaka will preside over the session.
Besides ambassador Sarvajit Chakravarti IFS ( Retd.) former Secretary to the Govt. of India, Kolkata, Professor Dr. Khurshida Begum, Department of Government and Politics, Jahangirnagar University, , Professor Bodh Prakash, School of Letters, Faculty of English, Ambedkar University, Delhi, India, Swadesh Roy, Executive Editor, Daily Janakantha, Professor Dr. Delwar Hossain, Department of International Relations, Dhaka University will speak at the conference.
