Jahalam, the phenomenal character that made headlines in February, this year will be recreated for the silver screen. Titled Jahalam the film is being directed, produced by Mariya Tushar. The project as can be expected has raised hype in the media. But to add more to this it has been revealed that fifteen filmmakers will act as actors in the film. And in the lead will be Riyazul Rizu, who swept the National Film Awards of 2015 with his first and only full-length film to date, Bapjaner Bioscope.
Yes, Riyazul will appear as Jahalam, the poor scapegoat of a massive racket of scamsters. Jahalam is a poor labourer in the Jute industry. He has been employed in a jute mill in Narsingdi, from where he was arrested in 2016 on charges of forfeiture of bank money. The original convict however Abu Salek, could not be captured as he has most probably fled the country. But Jahalam was convicted in his place as his face was recognised to resemble the face of Abu Salek, by bank officials and because his village stands near to another village mentioned in a bank account opened by Abu Salek.
He was freed on February 3 three days before completion of the third year of his faulty imprisonment following investigation conducted by the National Human Rights Commission.
Jahalam has reportedly expressed his jubilance at the news of the film. He wants the silver screen representation to be 'proper' so that nobody else like him would have to face court's punishment anymore despite being innocent. Mariya Tushar has decided to meet with Jahalam in this very month for her film project.
