Probe in Shahidul case stayed for 3 months

The High Court has stayed for three months the investigation into the case filed against noted photographer Shahidul Alam filed under Section 57 of the ICT Act .

An HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order with a rule on Thursday after hearing a writ petition.

In the rule, the court asked why the case filed under Section 57 despite the law was abolished through formation of Digital Security Act should not be declared illegal.

After suffering 107 days in jail, the internationally acclaimed photographer freed from jail on November 20.

Later on March 3, he filed a writ petition challenging the legality of the case.

Detectives arrested Shahidul Alam from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5, 2018 during the student movement demanding safe roads.

Later on August 6, he was shown arrested in a case filed under the ICT Act.
