BCB urges Shakib to manage his workload in IPL

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) advised Shakib Al Hasan to be fresh and fit for the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup by managing his workload in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Shakib who is currently in rehab to get him fully from the finger injury, has recently got the clearance to play the IPL, considered as the most cash-rich and glamorous domestic cricket tournament, BSS reports.

”I don’t think there should be any restriction regarding the participation in the IPL because if a player is fit he can go and play. But he must remember that he needs to make sure that he doesn’t get injured. We have given the clearance to play in IPL,” BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said here today.

The ace all-rounder was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand and the following three-match Test series after sustaining a finger injury during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) final on February 9.

He was supposed to play the third Test against New Zealand but the possibility was dented as he is given further 10 day’s rest by the BCB medical team following the assessment of his condition on March 10.

”He is recovering but still he is given 10 days rest. If he regains his fitness during this time frame still he is not available for last Test match against New Zealand,” he said.

”If he gets fit and doctor allows him to play then he can play across formats. As per doctor’s advice, he can play IPL but if there is any game of Bangladesh, he will be back and play for Bangladesh,” he informed.

Yunus added that they are aware of his injury status and believed he will be making sure that he play in such a manner and keeps himself fit for Tigers for the forthcoming World Cup.

”We are well aware of it [injury concern] and so we decided not to put any pressure on him whether it is in the IPL or any other tournament because our target is to get him in World Cup,” he said.

”But how much he will play and what he will do, he needs to decide because he needs to protect himself. That’s our first priority. We cannot bar any player if he wants to play IPL or other tournaments if the board thinks he is fit to play,” he concluded.
