'Robber' killed in 'gunfight'

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Sirajdikhan of Munshiganj on Friday afternoon.

Deceased Selim was a resident of Sonakanda village under Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka.

He was an accused in several cases, including murder of Almas of Sonakanda village, robbery and arms.

Sirajdikhan Police Station officer in-charge Md Farid Uddin confirmed the matter.

The OC said on information that Selim along with his 4/5 associates were roaming by trawler in the Dhaleshwar river in Fulhara village area, police conducted a drive in the area.

Sensing presence of police, Selim and his associates opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to fire back that led a gun battle.

After the shot gun battle, police found Selim bullet-hit injured.

Later, he died on the way to  Sirajdikhan Upazila Health Complex.

Three police members were also hurt in the shootout, OC Farid Uddin added.
