Book fair in Khulna draws huge crowd
KHULNA, Feb 13: With the beginning of Falgun, the Amar Ekushey Book Fair wore a festive look as thousands of enthusiastic booklovers gathered on the Divisional Public Library premises at Boyra in the city.
Hundreds of school, college and university students crowded different book stalls.
Khulna Divisional Public Library organised the month-long fair that was inaugurated by Mayor of KCC Talukder Abdul Khaleque on February 1.
While visiting the Book Fair on Wednesday afternoon, female students were found loitering on the fair premises wearing yellow coloured sari and flowers on their head and taking snap through mobile phones.
Member Secretary of Book Fair Organising Committee Ahsanullah told The Daily Observer that the fair has been gaining momentum since the last few days.
Every day new books are being unveiled. Besides, poem recitation and cultural programme are also being held every day, he said.
Tasnia Sharmily Noshin, a student of Khulna City Medical College said, "I along with my friends come here to enjoy and purchase books of my favourite writers."
"I become very happy to see a huge number of people gathered here to listen lectures with rapt attention on books. Seeing the people's love for books, I am very happy," she added.
A total of 43 new books hit the fair on Wednesday, increasing the number of 1,296 in 12 days.
The book fair remains open for all from 3pm to 9pm on working days and 8:30am to 9pm on government holidays with one-hour break for lunch and offering prayers. The fair will continue till February 28.
