College teacher killed in Khulna road mishap

KHULNA, Feb 13: A college teacher was killed in an accident on Khulna-Jashore highway in front of Damodar Government Primary School under Phultala Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Kishore Kumar Paul, 55, associate professor of Botany Department at Government B L College.
Police and local people said, the teacher was crossing the road at the said area, when a Khulna-bound goods-laden truck from Jashore ran over him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Principal of B L College Prof K M Alamgir said the deceased's one leg was broken a few years back in a road accident. He was sick mentally and physically since the accident and also faced problem in walking, he said.
The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, teachers, students and employees of the college organised a human chain in front the college gate on Dhaka-Khulna Highway in protest of the killing.  
They demanded exemplary punishment for the killer truck driver and to ban plying truck on daylight in the city.
