Road accidents leave 11 killed in four districts
Five Gopalganj BCL, Jubo League men among the dead

At least 11 people, including five BCL and Jubo League men, were killed in road accidents in Khulna, Munshiganj, Lalmonirhat and Dinajpur districts on Sunday night and on Monday.
Our Khulna, Correspondent reported that four BCL and a Jubo League leaders were killed in a road accident on Rupsa Bridge Bypass Road on Sunday night. The deceased were identified as Mahmud Hasan Babu, organising secretary of BCL Gopalganj District unit, SM Sadikul Hasan, vice-president of Jubo League Gopalganj Sadar upazila unit, Walid Mahmud Utsab, deputy education secretary of BCL Gopalganj district unit, Aminul Islam Gazi, health secretary of BCL Gopalganj Sadar upazila unit and Saju Ahmed, a Jubo League leader of Gopalganj unit.
Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Labanchara Police Station said the accident took place when a car carrying the BCL and Jubo League men collided head-on with a truck in front of Labanchara Police Station in Khulna city around 10:45pm, leaving the five dead on the spot,
A cement laden truck (Dhaka Metro Ta-18-2584) was coming from Mongla Cement Factory area and was going towards Rupsha area while the private car was going to Gopalganj from city's zero point area, said the OC.
The accident occurred while the driver (Jubo League leader) of the private car lost control over the steering as a pedestrian probably a mentally disabled came in front the car, OC said, adding that the speedy truck coming from opposite side collided head-on with the car. The truck driver managed to flee, he said. On information, fire service men rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the five from the smashed car and send them to KMCH morgue for autopsy.
The bodies were handed over to the family members of the BCL and Jubo League men on Monday morning.
In another accident, an eighth grader was killed and 20 others were injured when a picnic bus overturned at Chuknagar in Dumuria upazila of Khulna district on Monday.
Police said the victim, Meghla, was a student at Shyamnagar Girls' High School in Jashore Sadar upazila. The accident took place on the Khulna-Satkhira Highway around 11:30am.
Aminul Islam Biplab, officer-in-charge of Dumuria Police Station, said the girl was killed on the spot after a bus, carrying 60 students, teachers and staff of the school skidded off the road and overturned while heading to Shat Gambuj mosque.
The injured were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Our Munshiganj correspondent adds: Three people were killed and another was injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway at Bhaberchar Bus Terminal in Gazaria upazila on Monday. The deceased were identified as Siddiqur Rahman, 70, a retired Grameen Bank officer, his wife Jesmine Sultana, 55, of Kachua upazila, Abdullah Sarkar, 33, the driver of a private car of Matlab (South) upazila.
Sub-Inspector Billal Hossain of Bhaberchar highway police said the accident took place around 12:30pm.
The private car rammed into a covered van from behind, killing the three on the spot and injuring the couple's domestic help, he said. Police recovered the bodies and sent them to a local hospital morgue.
According to our Lalmonirhat, Correspondet, Two motorcycle riders were killed when a truck hit their bike in Patgram upazila of the district on Monday. The deceased were identified as Khorshed Alam, 40 and Arif Hossain, 38, resident of Goshala Bazar area of the district town.
Our Dinajpur Correspondent reports: A man was killed and four others were injured as cow-laden human hauler from Dinajpur skidded off the road at Ichamati in the district town on Monday.
