Two jailed for selling cigarette in front of school
A mobile court on Monday afternoon sentenced two shopkeepers to seven days’ imprisonment for selling cigarette and other types of tobacco related items in front of educational institutions in Barishal city.
The accused shopkeepers, Badal Talukdar, 30, of Police Line Road and Rafiq Shikdar, 32, of Brown Compound area of the city, were convicted for selling cigarettes in front of Barishal Government Zilla School.
Moazzem Haque Chowdhury, Executive magistrate of district administration, led the mobile court with help of law enforcing agencies.
Abdul Halim, assistant commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police, who accompanied the mobile court, said the court operated drive to prevent selling of cigarette and other types of tobacco related items in front of educational institutions of the city as per the direction of city mayor Sadik Abdulla on Sunday.
Earlier sellers of tobacco item and eve-teasers found in front of any educational institution were warned by the administration, and the drives would be continued, he added.
