United States keen to invest in BD energy Sector
The United States is keen to invest more in energy sector of Bangladesh, which achieved laudable development over the recent years, said US Ambassador to Bangladesh.
Visiting acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of US Department of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Thomas L. Vajda said this in Dhaka on Sunday.
Vajda said US companies like the General Electric are interested to invest in Bangladesh's energy and power sector, during a meeting with State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid at the Bidyut Bhaban in the city.US ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R. Miller was also present.
"Bangladesh is important to USA for strategic cause, however, USA is considering Bangladesh as a right investment place in South Asia, however, we are keen to invest here," Thomas said.
USA is a great partner in oil and gas exploration and power generation side for ages in Bangladesh.
Nasrul Hamid said the visiting official laid emphasis on enhancing cooperation among the countries in the Indian Ocean and expressed hope that Bangladesh, being a development role model, will play a leading role to that end.
State Minister described Bangladesh's socioeconomic development and mentioned that 80 percent people in the country have been brought under electricity coverage. He apprised the official that the investors are able to take bake their money with interest from Bangladesh safely.
He said Bangladesh, under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership, continued to demonstrate its success in all development indices and in energy sector alone it tripled its power generation capacity since she assumed office in 2009.
