Three students killed as bus, bike collide
GAZIPUR, Jan 10: Three college students were killed after a bus collided with their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Gazipur city on Sunday.
The deceased are Raja Babu, 18, Johnny, 17, and Shakib, 17 of South Mouchak in Gazipur city. They were all students of Class XII of Prof Shahjahan Ali College in Kaliakoir upazila of the district.
Mokter Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Basan Police Station said, the accident took place on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in the Etahata area of the town around 10:15 early on Sunday.
A head-on collision occurred between a Nabinagar-bound bus operated by Polash Paribahan and a motorbike coming from the opposite direction, Mokter said.
"Two of them died on the spot while another died on the way to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur," he added.
OC Moktar Hossain said the Gazipur city-bound bus of "Palash Paribahan" from Kaliakoir hit the oncoming motorcycle in Konabari area on the highway around 10:00am, killing Johnny and Shakib on the spot while injuring Raja Babu.
The injured, Raja Babu, was taken to a local clinic where doctors declared him dead, the OC said.
The accident occurred when the three were going to their college, said the OC. Police seized the bus and detained its driver from the spot, the OC added.
