81 dwelling houses gutted in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 10: A total of 81 dwelling houses were gutted in a fire in Oxyzen Rail Gate slum area under the city in the early hours on Sunday. "The fire originated from an electric short-circuit at a slum house in the area around 1.15 am and quickly engulfed the adjacent houses," said Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense in Chattogram. Nine firefighting units from different areas in the city and district rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 4.55 am, he said.
Among the burnt houses, 41 houses were gutted in Rahim colony and 40 houses were gutted in Jashim Uddin colony. Victims claimed that the fire damaged property worth about Taka 23 lakh, the source added.
