Dynamites berth final
Dhaka Dynamites reached the final of the Bangladesh Premier League 2019 on Wednesday beating defending champions Rangpur Riders by five wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka.
DDs preferred to chase winning the toss and were spot on since they got early breakthrough from Shuvagata Home. Home sidelined RRs opener Nadif Chowdhury in the last ball of fourth over. Nadif swing his bat for 27 from 12 deliveries with twin boundaries and three over-boundaries.
Rubel Hossain made Dynamites fans happy couple of occasions picking up two big fishes of Riders Chris Gayle and Rilee Rossouw. Losing their top three Double Rs were at 46 for three after powerplay overs. Gayle scored 15 and the top scorer of the tournament Rossouw accompanied a golden duck.
Mohammad Mithun and Ravi Bopara however, changed the scenario standing 64-run fourth wicket stand. Mithun collected 38 from 27 facings before being preyed by Qazi Onik.
Back to back stroke from Dhaka conversely, sent Rangpur back-foot once again. Shakib picked up man in-form Benny Howell while Qazi Onik found Mashrafe Bin Mortaza as his second scalp of the day. Mash promoted himself in the batting order at seven but went dug out yet before opening the account.
Caribbean carrom bowler of Dhaka Sunil Narine remained wicketless but was miser enough with tight line and length. Narine spent 18 runs from his stipulated four overs.
Mashrafe led side collected 109 runs from 14 overs, who lost their last six wickets to collect 33 runs. RRs were bowled out for 142 sustaining 19.4 overs. Ravi Bopara was the top scorer with 49 runs.
Rubel hauled four wickets while Qazi Onik and Andre Russel shared two wickets each. Shakib hunted one wicket to join with Taskin Ahmed as the leading wicket taker by means of 22 dismissals. Mashrafe also joined later on in 22-wicket procession grasping two wickets in the second innings.
However, initial stroke from skipper Mashrafe and bite from serpent Nazmul Apu kept mighty Dhaka at 51 for two after powerplay overs.
But Riders counted the price of catch misses. Rony Talukder was dropped when he was at 28. Mash dropped Russell at 105. Russell put the last pin on the board hitting a maximum, who remained unbeaten with 40 runs and Rony scored 35 as DDs were at 147 for five after 16.4 overs.
Rubel Hossain named the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling spell.
Dhaka Dynamites hence, will take on Comilla Victorians in the crown deciding clash on February 8 at the home of cricket, Mirpur. Dhaka showcased three silverwares of the previous five editions of BPL. Comilla and Rangpur uphold the trophy once each.
