Police denies allegation
Jubo League leader shot by cops, alleges family
A Jubo League leader was allegedly shot by plainclothes police in Shashthitala area of Jashore district town early Monday.
Injured Mehbub Rahman Mansal, 30, Jashore district unit Jubo League joint convenor, is now undergoing treatment at Jashore General Hospital.
Although victim's family accused police of shooting him, police claimed that they have rescued the Jubo League man.
Mansal's father Mohammad Almas alleged that a team of plainclothes law enforcers cordoned off the entire Shashthitala area at about 2:30am. They entered his house and his son to the rooftop of their house, claimed the father.
"We've heard the sound of a gunshot, but could not go upstairs as the door was locked from outside," Almas alleged, adding "Police, later, rushed Mansal to the hospital where we found that he received bullet injuries in his left leg."
District unit Awami League general secretary Hasan Imam alleged that police broke the window pens of his house by throwing brick chips and vandalised his private car and motorcycle.
Jashore Jubo League unit organising secretary Moinuddin Mithu said Mansal suffered a stroke few days ago that paralysed his right side of the body.
He also alleged that some masked criminals also accompanied police during the drive.
Denying the allegation, Kotwali Police Station OC Apurba Hasan said, "Being informed about a gunfight between two gangs, we went to the scene and found Mansal lying in a pool of blood. Later, we took him to the hospital."
