Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir should resign from his post for his failure in organizing an anti-government movement and poll debacle
as well.
He said this in reply to a query as Mirza Fakhrul a day earlier said Quader must apologise in a stadium for rigging votes.
Earlier, the ruling party General Secretary addressed an extended meeting of Dhaka South City Jubo League at the AL headquarters in the capital's Bangabandhu Avenue.
Dhaka South City Jubo League President Ismail Chowdhury Samrat chaired the meeting arranged in preparation of making the January 19 victory rally of AL a success. The programme was also addressed by Jubo League Chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury and General Secretary Harunur Rashid.
Referring to BNP, Jatiya Oikyafront, Quader said those who rejected people's verdict in favour of Awami League in the December 30 election, should apologise to the nation.
On TIB report questioning transparency in the elections, the AL General Secretary said, "We know why they are cooking up fictitious stories after so many days of the elections." The people of the country will give them a befitting reply, he said without elaborating.
Earlier in the day, Quader said at the AL President's Dhanmondi political office that the aspirants who played a pivotal role in all the pro-people movements the party launched, who made sacrifices for the party during difficult times will be given priority for women reserved seats in the 11th parliament.
Besides, the personalities of cultural arena will be evaluated in the 43 reserved seats AL got following the victory in 257 seats in the general elections. The celebrities played important role in the AL campaign, he said.

The AL parliamentary board led by AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will select the candidates of the party for the reserved seats.
