Will Dhaka Dynamites extend unbeaten run in BPL?

Unless Rajshahi Kings can find a way to beat Dhaka, the Dynamites will extend their lead at the top of the table. If the Kings do win the toss, they could do worse than to have a bat. Dhaka’s four dominant wins have come from scoring too many runs for their opponents to chase. They are untested at run chases in BPL6 and the Kings have won two of their games when batting first. Interestingly, Dhaka have won the last four matches against Rajshahi and batted first on each occasion.

Dhaka’s runs have come from several sources. HazratullahZazai and Rony Talukdar are the main contributors but the West Indian triumvirate of Russell, Pollard and Narine have scored important runs. In the win against Sylhet, it was Nurul Hasan and Mohammad Naim who put together an unbeaten 48 run partnership for the eighth wicket.  Against Rangpur, they recovered from 64/4. Dhaka bat deep and have players who have stepped when required.  Rajshahi will have to keep concerted pressure when bowling otherwise Dhaka will score and score quickly.

It’s difficult to see how Rajshahi can pick themselves up after a resounding defeat at the hands of Khulna.  The Titans had lost their first four games but a superb bowling performance, spearheaded by Taijul Islam’s miserly 3-10 from four overs, saw them overcome Rajshahi by 25 runs. Moving Laurie Evans up to open failed as the Englishman suffered a three-ball duck. Despite this early setback, Rajshahi reached 30/1 before losing 9-73 in 15.1 overs. Coach Lance Klusener will be particularly concerned with the batting capitulation from his team.

When the two teams met on January 5, Dhaka’s opening pair of Zazai and Narine scored more than the whole of the Rajshahi team.  Rubel Hossain’s 3-7 helped to rip out the middle order as Rajshahi slipped from 56/3 to 59/7 in the space of ten balls.

Dhaka’s dominance in the competition so far means that they will be heavy favourites. The tournament has conjured up a few surprises and Rajshahi, arguably, need the biggest one so far.  Dhaka have enjoyed home advantage so far; Khulna’s form has turned upwards in Sylhet and the rest of the competition will be hoping that Dhaka’s form goes in the opposite direction.
