‘Govt firm to maintain law & order situation’

GAIBANDHA, Jan 13: Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah on Sunday said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is fully determined to maintain law and order situation of the country anyhow.
"The police and other intelligence agencies of the country will have to be aware and alert so that any vested quarters cannot make any incident of violence and sabotage in a bid to create panic to the people and to destabilise the society as well", he said.
Deputy speaker and also lawmaker of Gaibandha-5 (Shaghata-Fulchhari) Constituency Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah made the comments while addressing a meeting of district law and order committee at the conference room of District Collectorate Building here as chief guest.
Monowar Hossain Chowdhury, lawmaker of Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj) Constituency, was present at the meeting as special guest while district magistrate and also Deputy Commissioner Abdul Matin presided over the function.
Superintendent of Police Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah, Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, President of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shajada Anwarul Quadir, President of District Motor Owners' Association Quazi Mokbul Hossain, Assistant Director of Narcotics Control Department Abdul Mazid, and Journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman addressed the meeting, among others, while additional district magistrate Kaisarul Islam was moderator.
Expressing zero tolerance of the government regarding drug trading, Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah, MP, asked the officials of the NCD here to conduct anti-drug drives to nab the drug traders including drug addicts to help build a drug free nation.
The speakers, in their speech, expressed their satisfaction over the law and order situation in the district and also thanked the district police led by police super and other law-enforcing agencies as no major incidents took place during the month of parliamentary polls.

All the members of the committee including the officials of NSI, RAB, BGB, Ansar and VDP, and jail guard and journalists took part in the meeting.
