Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said Jatiya Oikyafront's demand for a dialogue over the December 30 polls is nothing but ludicrous.
He came up with the directive while visiting Dhaka-Tangail Highway at Chandra in Gazipur.
Democratic countries across the globe, even Pakistan, have recognised the election, he said adding that in such a situation, Oikyafront's demand for fresh polls is just ridiculous. He also urged the Oikyafront to come to parliament to place their demands. Obaidul Quader said it's ridiculous to raise question about the 11thparliamentary election which got global recognition.
Quader said, "What people of Bangladesh say is a great deal for us and what they (BNP-Oikyafront) say is not our concern."
People overwhelmingly gave their verdict to the development under Shekh Hasina's leadership, he said before adding, "People have refused them (BNP-Oikyafront). Now, they are pressing demands in a bid to make the election questionable."
Referring to the Oikyafront's MPs-elect decision to skip Parliament, the senior AL leader urged the lawmakers to reverse their decision and join the House.
"Is it legal that they (Oikyafront's MPs-elect) show disrespect to people's verdict," Quader asked.
On resorting discipline on highways, the Minister said, "Operation against illegal parking and establishment will start within a week after serving notices.
Quader ordered the authorities concerned to remove all illegal establishments set up along roads and highways across the country within a week.
