Youth injured in AL infighting, dies
A young man died three days after he received injuries in a factional clash of the local Awami League unit in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district on Friday.
Deceased Yusuf Akanda, 32, was the son of Abdul Awal, a resident of Narpara village in the upazila, said Tarakandi Police Investigation Center in-charge Mohabbat Kabir.
According to locals, a Chhatra League leader, Zahid Hasan, was killed in Narpara village over establishing supremacy on sand business on May 31 this year. Following the incident, Zahid's cousin Yusuf Akanda and the men of accused Tofazzal Hossain clashed on Friday. At least 30 houses were vandalized and torched during the clash. Police fired gun shots to calm down situation, leaving around 50 people, including Yusuf Akanda injured.
In a critical condition, he was first rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, and later taken to capital Dhaka for better treatment.
Ibrahim Hossain, younger brother of Yusuf, said his brother died at a private hospital in Dhaka around 2:30am while he was undergoing treatment.
