Zaman Tower fire doused

The fire at Zaman Tower, a multi-storey building in the city's Bijoynagar area which houses the office of Jatiya Oikyafront, has been put out.

The fire originated around 2:40 pm on Friday on the 8th floor of the building but it is unclear what caused it, said Rasel Shikdar, duty officer at the central control of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, reports UNB.

Fourteen firefighting units rushed in and doused the fire around 5:34pm, said another duty officer Ershad Hossain.

No casualty was reported in the fire incident, he said, adding that the extent of damage could not be known immediately.

Oikyafront's office is on the third floor of the building.

"We fear it is an act of sabotage to impede our works before the national election," said Latiful Bari Hamim, Oikyafront's media wing member.
