Two Oikyafront candidates allege attack on poll campaign

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 20: A group of actors and actresses brought out a procession seeking votes for Awami League (AL) in the port city of Chattogram on Thursday.
The procession started from Chattogram Press Club and paraded the different thoroughfares of the city before a rally was held.
Actors and actresses include Ferdous, Reaz, Sakib, Mahfuz, Sweety, Tarin, Aruna Biswas. Dr Hasan Mahmud, Barrister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Naufel and Aminul Islam spoke at the rally.
Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Naufel, Awami League Organising Secretary and a candidate for Ctg-9 (Kotwali-Bakalia), promised to give priority to five sectors if he is elected MP in the upcoming election.
Talking to the journalists at Chattogram Press Club, Naufel said, "I shall remain with the Manifesto announced by the Awami League.
Naufel said he would work for quick implementation of the development projects of Chattogram, for empowerment of women, establishment of communal harmony and the development of Chattogram Port.
Claiming that Sheikh Hasina is a 'Philosopher statesman' Naufel said the Prime Minister had proved herself as worthy leader of Bangladesh.
Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel, son of former mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury, vowed to go ahead in all activities of the port city like his departed father.
In reply to a question, Nauflel expressed his sympathy for the BN P candidate in the same constituency Dr Shahadat Hussain, who is now in jail.
It may be mentioned that BNP candidate could not attend the election campaign. But the leaders of BNP and its front organizations are working in support of Sahahdat.
Ctg-9 (Kotwali-Bakalia) is one of six seats that will use electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the December 30 polls.
Candidates from Communist Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Islami Front, Islamic Front Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Jatiya Party (JP) and Islami Andolan are also competing for the seat.
MA Latif in Ctg-11 (Port-Patenga) is continuing his campaign in the areas of Agrabad, Halishahar and Port areas on Thursday.
Dr Hasan Mahmud of AL for Ctg-7 (Rangunia), ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury of Ctg-6 (Raozan), Shamsul Huq Chowdhury for Ctg-13 (Patiya) are campaigned in their local constituencies on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Jafarul Islam Chowdhury, BNP candidate for Ctg-16 (Banshkhali) and President of Chattogram district South BNP, alleged that he and his election workers had become victims of arms attack by his opponent.
In a press conference at Chattogram Press Club, Jafarul Isalm Chowdhury said his opponent was threatening his workers and tearing down his posters and banners.
He claimed that a group of people including 50 persons attacked his election rally at Saral area on Wednesday last. He said at least ten of his workers were injured in the attack.
Besides, an Okyafront candidate for Ctg-7 (Rangunia) from LDP M Nurul Alam alleged that there was no level playing field in his constituency.
In a press Conference at Chattogram Press Club on Thursday morning, he alleged that all his election rallies were attacked by his opponent group during the last few days. He said he could not participate in the election campaign freely.
